Project 5: Project Combo.
1. The piece I am most proud of is my watercolor color painting called "For Eleanor". I am proud of this piece because I was excited to take one of my old projects and upgrade into something that was more to my standard now. It has come a long way from where it started.
2. The most challenging assignment from this class was the oil painting project. The oil painting project was the most challenging because I had never used oil paint before. Oil paint in my opinion is more challenging to use than acrylic even though it has it's perks. Oil paint was very good for blending, but when I wanted to work by layering it was very difficult to work with. From this unit I learned how to use oil paint and how to cover my mistakes to make them look a little better. My projects for this unit actually came out looking really good. I am proud of the struggle.
3. Things I liked about art 3:
a. The people in my class- Everyone in my class was really supportive and kind which made communicating with everone a lot easier
b. How well I focused on my art- I was really committed to finishinf everything we were assigned this year which made me really proud of myself
c. The final project- We were given a lot of ideas for different projects to make which was really fun
d. The variety of mediums we learned about- We used many mediums from prisma colors to oil paint, which was really cool
Something I would change:
The one critique we did with everyone at one big table was my favorite. I liked how everyone was right there and could see everything. I also liked how we had to use our playing cards and had to make good and more in depth comments using the elements of art. So I would change the critiques by doing those more.

Project 4: Oil Painting
1. During this unit I learned how to use oil paint, period. I had never used it until now. Skills I learned during this unit were how to blend paint together better. Since the paint takes longer to dry it was a lot easier to blend colors together. I also learned to have a little patience since these paintings take some time to complete.
2. I planned my artwork by painting outlines of the hands i wanted to make sure I could even draw/paint them. For my pieces I like the colors I chose. I also like show much the shadows in the background bring out the hands. I'd say these pieces are successful but, they could still be better.

Project 3: Figure Drawing Project
1. Skills and techniques I learned during this unit was how to use charcoal and how to shade at an average level. I really got better at both techniques and the results came out really well. I applied them in my work by using them to bring the figures to life. I made the figures look more 3-D like, more realistic. I also made cool effects like the lighting in the figures, which brought out a really cool look to them.
2. For my planning, I tried to have an outline for my figures so it would be easier to draw them. Something that helped with this was all of the figure drawing practice we did in class. I also tried drawing with charcoal, which was a bad idea. I later learned that you don't have to outline your figures in first, you just use it for lots of shading and coloring. My work process consisted of a lot of shading and coloring. This helped the picture turn out successfully. I like how well I executed the charcoal with my shading and realistic feel. I've never done anything like this before so I was really proud of myself.

Project 2: PrismaColor Pencils
1. For my drawing I created the textures of succulents. I applied techniques by using value to show how 3-D the succulents were. To make the succulents more eye popping I made each succulent different colors.
2. During this project I learned how to change compositions so they are more interesting. I also learned that its okay to add different colors to create different values and textures. I overcame the fear of failing on a texture. I just tried my best and even when it was looking like booty to just keep going and roll with it.

Art 3: Project 1: Trite to Untrite
1. The trite symbol I chose and used was the laughing crying emoji. I made this symbol untrite by placing it in a different scene than it would be used. The laughing crying emoji stands for when a person laughs too hard, they start to cry. In this scene a guy is sitting there drunk and outside of bar, but it's a lot easier to laugh and cry.
2. My composition makes my art successful because it shows the situation the guy is in without putting a whole lot going on around him. My use of prismacolor pencils and value also made this peice successful because i was able to execute how i envisioned this piece well.

Most Successful
Least Successful
Critique:
1. I think my barnacle puppy was the most successful because of the medium and how I used my clay skills. The medium was clay. Using this medium I was unsure if I could create what I envisioned. I was glad I could create my puppy in the way i did. Using clay was fun but also challenging. I made many things in the past with clay but nothing like this so it was cool to try something new.
2. I think my balloon painting was my least successful. This painting did not live up to my expectations because its not as complete as I would have liked it to be. Something I could have done differently was do a better job on the value. I could have shown it better so you could have seen more of the shade and how it blends into the white.

North Carolina Art Museum Field Trip
As a field trip my class went to the North Carolina Art Museum. We all had to choose three pieces:one that stood out to you, one you felt more neutral about, and one that you didn 't really care for.

This project was about proportion. Proportion is the correct, attractive, or ideal relationship in size or shape between one thing and another or between the parts of a whole. In class, we did warm ups to test out proportion and try to draw people so they were proportionate like the real thing. We were given an assignment to create a piece of a proportionate person reacting to something. As you can see, my finished work shows a very tired person falling into bed after a hard days work.

Juxtaposition Position: the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect
Texture: the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance
Essential Questions Project
During the essential questions project we had to pick a word, come up with questions for that word, and answer our question using art. The word I chose was, alive. My question was, what makes life worth living? To make life worth living you have to do your own thing. Using that answer I made four different watercolor pictures of people doing their own thing and making their lives worth living.
Is Art Without Meaning Decoration ?
Is art without meaning decoration? To me yes, art without meaning is decoration. If someone were to paint a picture just to paint a picture then that picture would just be a decoration. Now if that picture were to have some meaning behind it then it would be art. In the classroom, I think that there does have to be many open lessons so that more people can have their own meanings to their projects. If there were lessons that were not that open for more thinking space more people would have a difficult time finding meanings for their projects. Making it difficult to call their projects art.
Art 2: Project 1- art Elements
The element that I chose for this project was value. I showed value in this project by painting balloons with certain darker and lighter shades of their color. In pencil i'm not that great at creating value so I thought paint would be better. I chose balloons honestly because I like balloons. I think they worked out as a good choice because they have a nice round form which made the value easier to paint and see.
First and final projects:
Final Exam!!!
1. How has your thinking about art changed during the semester? Was there a particular unit that you learned a lot in?
-My thinking about art has changed because I find it easier to come up with ideas for things to create. I learned that i shouldn't stress over trying to create something that will turn everyone's head. I should should just create something that I want to create.
-I didn't really have a unit that I learned a whole lot from, but i did learned learn a lot from the units all together. I learned that even if you know how to draw something from memory, observation still helps you to get a more detailed picture. I also learned that even some of the greatest people we call legends aren't fully original. They got their idea form somewhere.
2. What do you notice about your art making skills, including how you interpret themes, have changed when you compare your drawing to the beginning of the course to your more recent one?
-My art making skills at the beginning were okay but not as great as they are now. In my old picture the drawing is plain there's only really only one thing on the paper. On my recent picture for one I completed the whole thing and it has a lot more going on. The composition helps make the picture look more interesting. (Pictures up top ^)
3.What unit or project was your favorite? Why did you like it?
-My favorite unit was the limitations unit. I made a castle made out of cardboard and masking tape. I liked it because the project took a lot of time and effort. When i was finished with it it looked really I was really happy about how it turned out. (Picture up top ^)
4.What did you like about this class? What could have made it better for you, in terms of learning?
-I liked this class because it was something to look forward to everyday. I liked how open we could make our projects and how we could explore how we create our own art on our own.
-Something that could have made the class better was make sure people had ideas they were very confident in and make them plan out what they are going to do. Coming from me sometimes i just didn't have great ideas or i would have one and then later not like it. I guess to have a bit more planning would help a little.

Unit 6 Creation:
|
The assigned theme for this unit was identity. Your identity is who you are. An identity can be made up of the things a person believes, experiences, feels, ect. Everyone's identity is different. For the identity unit I chose to make a passport. In the passport you can find the regular info that makes up your identity. For me I switched things up a little. Instead of having a bunch of destinations, I created different pages that show off what an identity can be made from . The examples I made were about me.

Unit 6: Identity
Unit 5: Teens Inspired
The art piece I chose to work with was called " Doors of Jerusalem 1,2, and 3 by Jaume Plensa. This piece inspired my work because of its background. The words on the figures tell a story of a woman who crosses the wall of Jersalem looking for her love. She imagines that love is like a door in a wall. I loved the idea of the story and decided to use it for my project. My own interpretation of how love is like a door in a wall is your wall is your boundaries; and when you let someone into your boundaries and they really get to know you there is a spark called love.
Unit 5 Creation:
Sculpture fun time!!! :
Unit 3 projects:
I learned to make art with my limitation by observing my object closely. I also used something i was a little familiar with using. I used cardboard for my final project and i used it to make miniature buildings. I observed my cardboard by figuring out what ways i could fold, cut, and bend it. In this unit i also learned that you have to find out what shape things can take and turn into. That really helps you to picture what you can make out of your limitation.

Unit 2 drawings:
My old understanding of original art: Original art is art that is made up and totally new. Art that no one has ever thought of or even talked about. |
My new understanding of original art: Original art is not original at all! What i mean is, original art doesn't come just out of the blue. An artist has to get their ideas from somewhere. AN artist's steal is a good example of what exactly happens when an artist gets an idea. An artist looks at something and they think about they could change it to make it all their own.
Eleanor and Park Pinterest:

How did I steal from my subject(s)? :
For one of my pictures I used a character named, Eleanor, from a book called Eleanor and park. I "stole" her from the original book and drew her in my drawing, as you can see above (Not Finished). I didn't use all of the character, though. I used her hair, part of her face, and a quote to show the things that really stood out about her in the story.

During the observation unit my work improved from looking like how i perceive an object to looking more realistic. My use of value creates shape and color for certain objects. It tells where the light is coming down on an art piece. A technique that helped my work a lot more was actually observing objects. Sitting down and paying attention to all of the lines and curves really helps capture an object so you have a better feel of it when you draw it down on paper.
